On the Campaign Trail in Patrick Faber’s Collet
With both municipal and general elections set to go on March seventh, aspiring candidates are hitting the campaign trail. This afternoon News Five’s Isani Cayetano caught up with Patrick Faber, the chairman of the U.D.P. and the Minister of Education and Youth. Faber hasn’t lost in the past two election and he says he is ready to take on his opponent, Carolyn Trench Sandiford. Here’s that story.

“I have absolutely no fear coming on to these elections. I can tell you confidently that Patrick Faber will win in this area. I believe that people appreciate the work that I’ve done and that they will continue to give me their support and I can assure them. I complete twenty years and I am looking forward to another twenty years. I don’t intend to go anywhere.”

U.D.P. Candidate Patrick Faber, the current area representative for Collet Division, is prepared for the results of the March 7th General Elections. While that date was only just confirmed on Tuesday, Faber has been busy laying down the groundwork for what he believes will be a decisive victory over his opponent, People’s United Party candidate Carolyn Trench-Sandiford, in that constituency. According to him much has been done to improve the overall wellbeing of his constituents since taking office in 2008.

“You will remember that we opened the Gwen Liz Evening Program which is in the Collet constituency by design. We catered particularly to the single mothers in that area behind the cemetery which is polling area number nineteen. We opened the Magazine Road Terminal which is also in Collet in the polling area number eighteen and of course from pre-school to university we’ve assisted with their educational opportunities.”

Along with those accomplishments during his term in office Faber says that there are significant challenges within the constituency, particularly where it concerns the issue of land ownership.

“Land is a big issue in our area. At the latter part of our term we did secure lands that are outside of Belize City but the land situation in Belize City continues to be a problem. It took us a good many months, if not many years to clean up some of the mess made by my opponent who was never elected to office, who distributed some fake leases. You remember that scandal that happened in the last administration. It took us a while to clear that up. There were several people who were, for instance, jockeying for the same piece of land so that pose to be a very big problem for us.”

Despite those obstacles the area representative says that measurable progress is being made elsewhere.

“We have been able to secure almost two hundred jobs for residents of the Collet Division and your viewers could look forward to commercials with testimonials from people who have received jobs under Patrick Faber in the Collet constituency so that people can see that it’s not just talk. It’s really a reality in our constituency.”

“Would this be a situation where you would be resting on your laurels based on the achievements over the last four years or would you be inviting your constituents to something new should they elect you a second time around?”

“Well, yes we want to look at new things for the constituency but certainly I do bank, I hope to get a tremendous amount of the support that I will need to win from those people who have of course benefited from the service of my labors over the not five years, not ten years, I’ve been in Collet now for going on twenty years.”
Faber, who was instrumental in the disbursal of monies from the Venezuelan Housing Grant to his constituents, intends to remain area representative for the neighborhood despite formidable opposition from the P.U.P. standard bearer.

“I am a part of Collet. I grew up in there and continue to be a major part of everything that goes on in Collet. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”

waste of money on Magazine road building, the ITVET building is hardly used, he admitted that the investment is to gain votes in his division. UDP has no vision, Faber can spend a billion dollars but if half of our primary school students fail PSE then something is wrong. it is not how much you spend it is the result that you get.this ministry of education is a failure !!!

Faber will go down in my books as the daring Minister who had the gall to take discipline by corporal punishment out of the schools and replace it with the Peace Corp homosexual traning manuals for our innocent children. For that he is in the negative for me. He sounded like a promising statesman but is really a sucker for the UN and for immorality and slackness.

The last time I se Patrick in Collet was election time after that all i see tha the @$$ end of the rova or the minista vechicle Patrick show me some weh you do fix what and where the streets are still the same the trash is everywhere the dogs run wild and $#!% every where the are is full of trash the area stink and you nuh even deh run yah fe smell it. Neva se you round yah except when u need a vote stop lie when last you walk the streets and talk to your so called people when talk that.
