PM leaves to join wife for medical treatment

Dean Barrow

Prime Minister Dean Barrow on Tuesday announced early general elections to coincide with the March seventh municipal elections. The campaign is now in full swing and all political parties are oiling their machineries. This Friday, parliament will be dissolved and according to section eighty-four, number six of the Constitution, the ministers will continue to function until a new government is formed. On Monday, however, the PM will be interrupting the relatively short, five week campaign for both the general and municipal elections. His national tour is also on hold. PM Barrow will travel to Miami where his wife Kim will be undergoing another round of chemotherapy. It either shows that the PM is extremely confident or he has thrown caution to wind. But recent results in Jamaica and previously in Belize show that early elections do not favor the incumbent. So the prime minister may be taking a gamble at a time when two polls say there’s a very slim margin of support between the U.D.P. and the P.U.P.

  2. P U P Support says:

Whatever happens, or whatever party you chose, respect the politicians family. If my wife was in this situation I would give her my unconditional support. Kudos to him for being a man. This is coming from a P U P supporter.

  3. Bulba Martinez says:

P.U.P Supporter, I totally agree with you my friend. This has nothing to do with politics. “Who feel’s it know’s it”, Cancer is not a game like the politics we have in our country but, Kim need all the support she can get, moreso from her husband. Been there done that. Stay Strong Kim, HE (Jesus) has done it for me and my wife and HE will do it for you. BY HIS STRIPES YOU’RE HEALED. Take care and God Bless. Ayoh.

Most Belizeans sympatize with PM’s wife and wish her the best but we must not forget that we here in Belize have a cancer called the UDP that also needs chemoteraphy.

  7. Awake says:

Our prayers are with ur wife PM…but take a break and come back strong and ready to face the music because you have hurt us Belizeans in 3 main ways:
    1) Illegal Nationalization & Registration…and land to these aliens who just came over the border,
    (2) The Ministry of Education HFLE homosexual manual that Faber seems to be proud of
    and
    (3) Allowing the Deputy to deplete our Rosewood.

We will remember those things when we go to the polls March 7th..
