Independents and 3rd parties go national
If you don’t want to go red or blue on Election Day, third parties and independent candidates are making their way onto the ballot slip for March Seventh. The Vision Inspired by the People, the People’s National Party and several independent candidates held a joint press conference at the Chateau Caribbean this morning to announce their unified front to attain national prominence as ministers and prime minister of the next government. There were eight seated at the head table including VIP’s Bobby Lopez and Rufus X, however because of time constraints we are only able to highlight a few.
Wil Maheia, PNP, Toledo East
“What a historic day this is for the country of Belize. Don’t think ever since this country was born have you ever had a group of independent minded people gathered at one table putting up themselves for parliamentary position. so I want to start off by congratulating my colleagues here and declaring that the war is on and with you the people of Belize, you can help us to win this war. We can put an end to corruption. Together we can fight the two party system; we could show this country that Belizeans have had enough. And if you Belizeans have had enough, then enough is enough.’
Roberto Campos, Independent Candidate Corozal South West
“I Roberto Campos launch my candidacy as an independent standard bearer for Corozal Southwest. Proudly born in San Narciso Village in the Corozal District—successfully graduated from Corozal Community College. My greatest passion has always been to represent and serve my people. I am not new in the political arena. I was elected as the chairperson at the last village council elections. I humbly come for the people of my constituency to deposit their vote of confidence and encourage them to come out on March seventh and be a part of this needed change.”
Marcel Bedran, Independent Candidate, Cayo North
“It is more evident in the last four years, there is no record, there is no representation and I sit here today in front of you all because of my concern for the future of our country, our children, our children’s children and I take it as a very serious commitment. It has taken myself and my family almost one year to make this decision and I am going to be quite frank and honest to you all and I hold no apologies to when I say we have no representation in Cayo North and hence the reason I offer myself, I offer myself so that you the Belizean public may have the freedom to vote.”
Fred Hunter Sr., Independent Candidate, Belize Rural Central
“I’ve served twenty-four years, in 1984 I took a rest, but the conditions in Belize force me to come back man. I go to the villages and they say Mister Hunter why you noh run again. And now I see this is the year for the independents. And we will win and we will form the next government.”
If all the candidates are elected, they would still not form a majority. However, they believe that they can form a majority and a prime minister could be decided by a coin toss.
Belizeans,
The time has come for a change to this “PUDP” system.
To-date, in nine of the thirty-one constituencies, you now have an option. Don’t let voter apathy set in. If you truly believe that Belize deserves better than what the “PUDP” has offered over the years, do the sensible thing and stop chainj black dawg fu monkee!
The BUA is the only viable option at the national electoral level. Be a part of the substantive change our country needs and support the effort by voting for these non-“PUDP” individuals.
Its a good thing to have a third party.
As far as I can recall, we were thought to count 1,2,3,4,5 etc. You can’t have more than one 3, or more than one 3rd. Its 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th. I make this clarification because I believe that the media has a lot to do with why the PUP and UDP seem to be the popular choice to vote. None wants to be 3rd. Everyone wants to be first. So when people go to the poles, they are already pyschologically drawn to PUP and UDP. They don’t want to be associated with being 3rd. The media need to stop saying 3rd parties. Just refer to them as another party, or a new party. There is no such thing as 3rd parties. At best, their are 3 parties to choose from. That’s it.
You have a small mind subKonshus! Every thing that is good (or bad for that matter) that you can see around you (unless you are blind) started with an individual dream. If George Price did not dream to have an independent Belize we would have still been British Subjects. Our natural resources would have still been taken at will, and our forrests would have been completely strip cut by now and the people of Belize would not receive a penny for it.
Someone else need to dream and come up with a third political party which will make our political system even stronger because then who ever is elected knows that their chanxces of winning is even less so they will have to produce while in office because the people will have even more choices.
By the way good move Wil just keep pushing for this change it is a good thing!
@ subKonshus
You’ve highlighted an excellent point!
I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THIRD PARTIES, BUT I KNOW FOR A TRUE FACT THE PEOPLE WILL GO EITHER RED OR BLUE???
MY CONCERN IS HOW IN THE WORLD BOBBY LOPEZ WANT TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY WITH THAT EARRING IN HIS EARS???
ENOUGH PROBLEMS WITH UNIBAM WHO WANTS TO BE WOMEN, NOW WE ARE TRYING HARD TO DISCOURAGE OUR SONS FROM THIS BEHAVIOUR AND HERE IS THIS MAN WHO IS ASPIRING TO BE PM OF BELIZE WITH EARRING ON HIS R EARS!!!!
COMMON THIRD PARTIES CONDUCT YOURSELF IN A BETTER MANNER NO MAN, YOU CAN’T JUST TALK AND TALK AND NO WALK THE WALK.
FOOLISH MAN!!!!!
