Three charged following assault on off-duty cops

A bar fight that resulted in bloodshed over the weekend has left a police officer in danger of losing one of his eyes. According to police reports, around two on Sunday morning off-duty officers Trevor Lopez and John Ordonez were hanging out at the Hi Five nightclub on Aurora Street in Orange Walk Town when an altercation involving six men broke out. The officers tried to break up the scuffle, but instead of walking away five of the brawlers turned their attention to the cops and used a broken bottle to stab Lopez in the left eye and right shoulder. Ordonez was stabbed in the right side of his head and back. Subsequent police investigations have resulted in the arrest of twenty-five year olds Pedro Molina and James Pelayo, as well as a fourteen year old minor. All three have been charged with Attempted Murder of Ordonez and Wounding against Lopez. Investigators tell News Five they are also trying to determine how the nightclub’s security allowed a fourteen year old to be in the bar in the wee hours of the morning. As for the victims, P.C. Ordonez has been discharged from Northern Regional Hospital, but tonight Officer Lopez remains admitted to ward in stable condition. Doctors have warned his family and co-workers that his injury may result in the loss of his vision.
