Albert will no longer listen to Mark’s Gospel

Mark Espat

As the P.U.P. was meeting this morning, Mark Espat confirmed that he won’t be on the P.U.P. ticket for the March Seventh general elections. Espat’s withdrawal like Cordel Hyde’s was anticipated and the hierarchy of the P.U.P. spent the weekend recruiting replacements that were announced this morning. Espat has generally enjoyed a good track record in portfolios as Minister of Tourism and Culture; Minister of Economic and Rural Development, Investment, Enterprise and Youth. And like his brother-in-law, he was fired from Cabinet in 2007. Since then he had generally distanced himself from internal party politics including major political events such as the national convention and for most part from House meetings. Last year, despite the overwhelming support from thirty constituencies, Espat turned down the leadership of the P.U.P. which was then taken up by Fonseca. Subsequently in November, 2011 he was removed as deputy party leader.

There are two statements on his withdrawal. The first is a well crafted one issued by his committee which recalls Espat’s accomplishments since he won his first election in 1998, breaking a U.D.P./N.A.B.R. stronghold. Says the release “What Party members like us seek and what Belizeans deserve is a Party where donors matter less and merit matters more; where results match rhetoric; and where policies live up to the Party’s creed of service to the people, social justice and a mixed economy.” It continues: “At critical junctures, in Government and in Opposition, Mark stood firm in defending the interests of the ninety-nine percent from the assaults of the one percent, refusing to be bullied into submission.”

Espat did not write to the party, but wrote instead to voters in the Albert saying “Most precious to me from this period in electoral politics is the trust and optimism that you and I share — a faith that public service is about the high aspirations, convictions and promise of creating a greater and more just society for all Belizeans, and an unshakeable conviction that country comes before political colors and special interests.” So for Espat and Hyde, it is the end of an era in electoral politics.

    Hon. Espat:

If you ran for Prime Minister, under any color, I would vote for you.
    You have my respect.

Those lyrics that Mark uttered are a pile of dung. A total fraud if you ask me. When the PUP reached out to him to really take up the mantle of leadership, he turned it down not wanting to take the political risk since there were too many challenges. I was just gonna say he is another glitter but no substance like Dean Barrow, except Dean did take his party through rough times and did not shirk the responsibility of leading when he was called to do so. This fraud was afraid to take up the challenge. SHows how much he is really committed to public service.

The PUP SHOULD have listened to Mark’s Gospel……

But again as Briceno rightly said.. the “PUP Millionaires” didnt want to heed to Mark’s gospel….

They shall feel the pinch on March 7th…. and I say pinch.. rightly because with all the wealth they accumulated during PUP’s reign, they will not suffer that much as we the common Belizean do…. you see money soothes the pain….

I hope Mark and Cordel someday start their own party with the long vanished roots on social justice that once the PUP had…..

I agree that they should start their own party if their ideology of a party base on social equity and moral judgment is to be establish because both major political parties are infected with the philosophy of the “selfish mentality” me …me…nevertheless myself as well as many Belizean question if stepping away was the right thing to do as the change that the PUP needs must comes from with and only those that are in the party could advocate for that CHANGE……..however, it is common sense that they were not well like by members of their own party because they both have shown that they have a heart of flesh and was compel to stand up for the inequality, injustice, Condescending behavior of the Government they was a part of. 1998-2008 for that I respect both men, whatever other problems they might have had…………my brother MARK legacy will always be debated on what could have should have and would have been with him as leader the PUP and prime minister of our great Belize.
It’s a was a sad day when he decline to LEAD the PUP but it’s even a sadder day when he decline to lead a NATION that have come to believe in all that he have fight and sacrifice for so selflessly over the years for SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUALITY………………IS THIS TRULY THE END…… if it is den dog yam wi suppa!!!!!!!

  9. Earl Grey says:

Seriously…WHAT IS HIS LEGACY IN THE ALBERT DIVISION??? What did he really do for the people???
What can he point to and say…I DID THIS FOR THE PEOPLE OF ALBERT!!!

  10. RADICAL says:

Again Mr. Earl that can be debated and the people of Albert have seen what both of us might be missing. the truth be told Albert by nature is a division that requires a leader that pays attention to the people……………and by MARK’S successive victory and overwhelming support over the years speaks for its self………..EARL he was a servant of the people something that is rear these days in politics!!!!!!!!!!
