Y.F.F. campers awarded certificates for attendance

Story PictureAcross the country, summer camps are starting to wind down. This afternoon sixty children who participated in one such event hosted by the Youth for the Future were awarded certificates for their participation. Over the course of a month, the boys and girls aged eight to sixteen years old attended sessions aimed at character-building. According to Y.F.F.’s Director Linsford Castillo, the training is geared to minimize conflicts between Belizean youth.

Linsford Castillo, Director, Y.F.F.
“Our clientele are youth and when you say youth, it is fifteen to twenty-nine that we are focussing on, but as you would notice there’s a lot of children here and so we feel it important to not wait until they become of the youth age, but to try and harness them even in the pre-youth stage. The young persons got a first hand opportunity to learn from each other as opposed to just having facilitators come in and just deliver materials. It was really—they interacted with each other and to me that was the most important thing that I see we got out of the whole experience.”

Castillo says they hope to make the summer programme an annual event.
