Cayo man convicted of attempted murder
Tonight the family of a teenager left paralyzed by a violent boyfriend is breathing a little easier following the conviction of the man accused of the crime. On Thursday, a jury unanimously found twenty year old Abdiel Sandoval guilty of attempted murder. On September third 2005, the Cayo resident, then only eighteen years old, was arrested after he attacked his sixteen year old girlfriend Tracey Donis. The girl’s throat had been slashed and a deep stab wound to the back caused serious damage to her spinal cord and resulted in paralysis from the waist down. The attack was apparently triggered when Donis told Sandoval she wanted to end their one year relationship. During trial, Sandoval took the stand in his own defence, telling the court that Donis inflicted the injuries to herself after he told her that he no longer wanted to see her. Justice Adolph Lucas has set Sandoval’s sentencing for August third.
