Participants arrive for Costa Maya Pageant

Story PictureNext week, planes and boats bound for San Pedro will be packed as hundreds of Belizeans travel to enjoy the entertainment of the Costa Maya Festival 2007. Organisers continue to make preparations for the week long event, especially the much anticipated Reina de La Costa Maya competition. Today, three of the hopefuls arrived in the country and over lunch our crew caught up with Miss Belize, Maria Jeffrey, Miss Honduras, Miss Intercontinental Guatemala, and Miss Nicaragua at the Riverside Tavern.

Maria Jeffrey, Miss Belize
“I’m in my home country, so I’m actually one of the hosts here. So that’s going to be very exciting because I get to show all these girls exactly what Belize has to offer so I’m looking forward to that right now.”

Janelle Chanona
“Are you in it to win it?”

Maria Jeffrey
“Of course, I’m always in it to win it.” (Laughs)

Marisa Salazar, Committee Director, Costa Maya
“Highlights for this year’s show are many. We have first of all, superstar Ricardo Montaner performing on Saturday, we have the pageant on Thursday, we’ll have Chavelita, which is a famous comedian, on Sunday and on Friday we have a group, an all girls group from Honduras; so we have something special for every night. And we have the delegates for pageant that are starting to come in, we have four of the delegates already in Belize and tomorrow we have three more arriving.”

“Make sure that you come out this year. It’s not every year that we count with seven delegates, beauty queens from all over Central America and Mexico. It’s not every year you can get to see Ricardo Montaner. It is a pageant and festival worth coming to.”

Miss El Salvador, Miss Mexico, and Miss Panama are scheduled to arrive in Belize tomorrow.
