Art exhibition at O.A.S. features Central Americans
In other news from the art world, over the next three months Belizean artists will team up with regional counterparts in a series of exhibitions to be hosted at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington, D.C. In “Landings 5”, thirty-three contemporary visual artists from the Caribbean and Central America will showcase photography, video, printmaking, painting, and mixed media works. Curator of the event is Belize’s cultural ambassador, Joan Duran.
Joan Duran, Curator, Landings 5
“Landings is to make artists that are already good, better artists, better persons, certainly better citizens of their own countries. The biggest success will be when all these artists that we have been working with them, three, four, five years from now, instead of being in New York making money, they are in their own countries, organizing their own communities and being, at least from my perspective, I’m trying to do since I landed in Belize in 1971 I think, just to make the place that I decided to be my base of operations in this planet, a better place for everybody.”
Landings Five will run until September fifteenth. The featured works can be viewed online at www.museum.oas.org. Belizean artists on the bill include Yasser Musa, Sean Taegar, Santiago Cal and Michael Gordon.
