Business houses assist fire victims…
Exactly a week ago five families in the Albert Division escaped with little more than their lives after a devastating fire burned their homes and possessions to the ground. Today, as they try to pick up the pieces, those families received some much needed assistance from two generous business houses. One entrepreneur, who chose to remain anonymous, donated two hundred and fifty dollars to each family. From C.E.O. of the San Cas Group, Santino Castillo, they each received a three hundred dollar gift certificate redeemable at Bottom Dollar store. And as the families expressed their gratitude, the Belize City Council, which organised the donations, called on other businesses to give generously.
Arilee Burgess, Fire Victim
“It’s a lot of us; we have babies that need things. There was a little girl that I used to mind and all her things get burned in the fire, so it will be a lot of help for me and my family.”
Kendra Griffith
“You lost everything?”
Arilee Burgess
“The only thing I save was my radio and my gas tank because the first thing I took out of my house was my gas tank.”
Gilroy “Press” Cadogan, Fire Victim
“Nuff respect to Santi, I have to big up Anthony Michael, the Deputy Mayor, nuff respect to all them people who donate too, they noh have to do this.”
Everal Neal, Fire Victim
“Well I will get groceries for my family and I will do something with it, but I just want to big up Santi for the donation that he give us and down the stretch I hope more people could do the same.”
Anthony Michael, Deputy Mayor, Belize City
“I encourage other businesses throughout the city to do the same in helping these fire victims. Even when they are purchasing their stuff, their stoves and refrigerators, if they could find it in their hearts to give them a large enough discounts for them to try and rebuild their lives.”
