Cordel’s Lake I Committee says goodbye

It’s less than three weeks to the general elections and another bombshell was dropped in Lake Independence this afternoon. Last Friday, the nomination of Yolanda Schakron, who looked like a sure winner, was rejected when government through a resident of the area, put forward an objection. Well, earlier today the Cordel Hyde Committee, announced it was stepping down and would not continue to work the campaign with Martin Galvez, who replaces his sister, Schakron.  Galvez, spoke early this afternoon to News Five about his campaign in Lake I. He did so along with Schakron. Within an hour of that interview, the Lake I committee dropped the news that it was standing down. According to a release signed by Cardinal Usher and Evan Garnett the Committee opted as good P.U.P.s to support Schakron who they say was proposed entirely by the Party’s leadership. And now that Schakron has been disqualified, and the Party has selected a replacement, the committee says it has reconsidered its decision.  According to the committee, they should have withdrawn immediately after Hyde stepped down and are now so doing. So how will it affect Galvez? Well, sources in the P.U.P. say that it is not a major blow since only two of the committee members were involved and that the machinery is still on the ground.

The independent candidate, Carlos Diaz, we note, is also in the race; so going into the March seventh elections, there are three candidates in the division of a little over five thousand voters.
