Driver fined for causing death by careless conduct

Meanwhile, a Belize City driver who pled guilty to Causing Death by Careless Conduct this week has been fined for the offence. Justo Reyes appeared before Justice Adolph Lucas today to learn his fate for killing thirty-nine year Carlos Alamilla last April. But family members of the deceased got up and told the judge they don’t hold the defendant responsible and remain friends with him. Lucas then ordered Reyes’s driver’s license to be revoked for a year and fined him five thousand dollars. On the night of the accident, Reyes was behind the wheel of his Chevy pickup truck with five friends, but when the vehicle turned off North Front Street onto Queen Street, Alamilla, who was seated on the edge of the truck, was thrown off. Alamilla sustained serious injuries to his head and was pronounced dead on arrival at the K.H.M.H.
