Liberty Foundation home for kids holds fundraiser

Story PictureThe Liberty Foundation is still strapped for cash. And with the new school year only days away, the foundation is putting off its second annual fund-raising event. In late June of this year, the foundation was threatened with closure which meant that forty-five would have been left without a home. There was some relief with assistance from the Radisson Hotel and Publics Supermarket, but the finances are drying up. Director, Delfena Mitchell, says on Saturday, Liberty will be having a fair and radio-thon and is inviting the public to support the efforts.

Delfena Mitchell, Director, Liberty Foundation
“Come Saturday, we have a huge fundraiser planned—we have a radiothon planned that will be broadcast live from Liberty by Love FM and we have a fair right here on Liberty Grounds. So that’s one thing that we are doing to try and raise funds to continue our work with the children—to bring in some income. I’d like to invite all the Belizean public to come on out to Liberty this is a chance for you to come on our grounds and experience Liberty yourself and have some fun. We gonna have horse back riding for the kids. We gonna have games and prizes, great food—we’re gonna have pibil tacos cooked on the slow-cooker right here. Turkey dinner, lots of foods, games, drinks, and great entertainment. We have masters of the floor who will be performing, Wilson Grinage, Joseph and Delanni-Stamp Romero, Polynesian dancers. What else am I forgetting? Many other entertainment—Reecie Pollard. So, I think just the entertainment alone will be lots of fun.”

Entrance for the fair is three dollars. According to Mitchell, it was not until after the airing of the story on Channel Five back in June that the government decided to commit a monthly donation to the home.
