Corozal man stabbed to death, house burned down
The badly burned corpse of a man has been found in the charred remains of a house in the Corozal District … and a post-mortem suggests that it was a case of murder. The body of sixty-nine year old Humberto Waight was discovered on Saturday morning in the blackened ruins of the small concrete home where he lived alone in Calcutta Village. Initial indications were that he was fatally burned, with the cause of the fire unknown. But the post-mortem conducted today revealed that Waight bled to death from two stab wounds to his stomach. Police are now looking for two young men for questioning in the belief that Waight was murdered, then his house set on fire to hide any evidence of the crime. The police are asking citizens with useful information on this case to call the nearest station or Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-8477.
By our unofficial count, Waight’s murder is number forty-five for 2007. By way of comparison, at this time last year the nation had recorded thirty-six homicides.
