Mayor on top of garbage collection
Residents of Belize City can normally forecast when collections are low. That is because workers of Belize Maintenance Limited often protest in front of City Hall when cheques to the private company have been slow in delivery. It’s almost guaranteed that garbage collection and payment will be an inevitable issue that Bradley’s Council will face.
Jose Sanchez
“No city council I believe can escape the issue of garbage collection. How much money is being spent on that and when there is no money, you would always see these people out here protesting against city hall?”
Darrell Bradley
“Well immediately also upon taking office as mayor, there are some key issues that we have to address; garbage being one of them. I have met with the councilor responsible for garbage; I’ve outlined to him what our program on our agenda is, we set a meeting with the garbage suppliers. The first week I met with both of the contractors, their representatives, and we spoke to them in detail as it related to what we mean to do in ensuring that residents of Belize City get maximum benefits from these contracts. And in relation to BML, some of the things we are looking at is to ensure that the city is cleaned more regularly, to ensure that we put in place more regular monitoring procedures. We have our people going out so that we can plug wherever there is weaknesses in terms of that supplier so that the city looks beautiful and those conversations will continue, but they have already begun. I’ve indicated to them that this is a new mayor; we intend to do things differently. Of course we have to deal with the reality of the garbage contracts. It is something that is in existence; it is something that existed before me, but my stance is that we will ensure that the residents of Belize City get value for money. And the garbage suppliers have indicated to me that they also want to see the best for Belize City and it is in their interest to ensure that they work with us in a way that maximizes their own financial benefit. And I’ve indicated to them that we will work together; it will be very participatory, we will monitor their activities to ensure that people are getting value for money and if we are not satisfied, we will take other avenues.”
Deputy Mayor Dion Leslie is the Councilor with responsibility for Sanitation and Sister City Relations.
Darrel Bradley you are full of it.You know those rich people aren’t going to give you all any money to fix the streets. If they wanted thier streets to be fixed they have the money to do it they would have done it a long time ago. That is why they buy those huge expensive vehicle so that they can run over all the pot holes so it doesn’t affect them. Some of those people are the same people that benifitted from the poor peoples money because of thier involvement with politicians. They would rather buy themselves another boat that to give money to fix a street that everyone else uses.Rich people are mean and only for themselves. All of them combined including the ministers can probably pay off all the debt that Belize has. They might end up telling the poor people that they will be the ones to put the 50/50 that he is talking about. Those big people don’t have dipsosal money, they rather spend it on thier pets when thier are a lots of hungry children in Belize. It really irritates me, that our society is one sided.I am sure i not the only one that sees what is happening. You call it devide and conquer. The rich lives and the poor has to lives Belize. The reason i say that is because they can go anytime the want to they have a choice of leaving, but the poor can’t go anywhere. The only place they will go is the cemetery. Why is it always the poor people that gets affected by all problems in society? If everyone was honest and got rich it wouldn’t be bad but thier are a lot of crooks and drug dealers but they use thier business as a front. They spoil the people in goernment to get thier way.Good luck with that negotiating with the ones that can afford the 50/50 Darrel “,,,” Bradley.
SW@GVILLE…please do me one favor. Use spell check and check your grammar before you post something on the Internet. The man, Mr Darrell Bradley, has only been in office for a couple of weeks and you want to bring him down and call him names already. I am sorry your party lost, but give the man a chance as he was elected by the people. I personally think that he will be good for Belize City.
