Cycling Association rides with a Donation
The annual Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic is less than two weeks away and while Belizean riders train diligently to bring back the coveted garland, the Belize Cycling Association is hard at work soliciting gifts for the competition. Over the years the association has struggled with finding cash and prizes but this year it was pleasantly surprised when the Ministry of Sports pledged a significant contribute to the cause. News Five spoke today with BCA president Emil Moreno who had just concluded a meeting with government officials.
Emil Moreno, President, Belize Cycling Association
“I just came out of a meeting just now with the minister of Sports and the representative for the national Sports Council and we were given a substantial prize for the first Belizean or a winner being Belizean of a matching five thousand dollars for the first place Belizean winner.”
James Adderley
“Okay. Does this complete your quest for prizes?”
Emil Moreno
“No James it doesn’t. As a matter of fact that is a significant portion that was given to us by the ministry but we are still looking for prizes for the first twenty finishers. Of course a lot of people wait until the last minute and give up the station prizes. We know that is going to come in and that is going to come in a little late. We would ask and urge the general public that wants to do so to please do so in a manner that we could get it documented and handed out to the media houses in an orderly fashion. Our contact numbers to do so would be 610-2366, Mister Perry Gibson and my telephone number is 601-4476.”
