Blind and able, Rowan Garel, takes P.S.E.
Of the seven thousand one hundred and seventy six students who sat the exam, one hundred and forty were registered as special needs candidates. One of those individuals, Rowan Garel, is blind but is clearly not disabled as he recently climbed Victoria Peak. Garel, a student of Hummingbird Elementary explained how he did on today’s session.
Jose Sanchez
“How does one who doesn’t see, prepare for the P.S.E.?”
Rowan Garel, Sat P.S.E.
“Well I guess that depends on what you are comfortable with. But like me I use my laptop to write my English paper two which is the letter writing and the narrative writing which is you have to write a story. Then for the rest, someone reads out the questions to me and then they have someone else that fills out the answer.”
Jose Sanchez
“Are you in a separate room from the other students?”
Rowan Garel
“Yes, I am in a spate room.”
Jose Sanchez
“And how did you actually find the P.S.E. yourself?”
Rowan Garel
“Well you have to take your time because this isn’t like a practice where you just go over it with you class and fix your mistakes. You get it wrong; you can’t do anything about it. So you have to really take your time and check it over.”
Jose Sanchez
“So in essence, outside of the logistics, you just had to study?”
Rowan Garel
“Yes you definitely have to study.”
Jose Sanchez
“And did you study Rowan?”
Rowan Garel
“Yes I did.”
Jose Sanchez
“So we should expect something decent from you at the end of it?”
Rowan Garel
“I hope so.”
Jose Sanchez
“What are your plans, what are your intentions in terms of after completion of P.S.E. and standard six?”
Rowan Garel
“Well just go to high school and keep working very hard.”
Garel said his parents also assisted with the studies.
WOW..THIS CHILD IS AMAZING. IMAGIN HE IS BLIND AND HE KNOWS HE CAN DO IT. THIS CHILD IS AN EXAMPLE TO OTHERS, YOU NEVER GIVE UP, IF YOU PUT YOUR MIND TO DO IT YOU CAN DO IT.
Wish my son would take example of this young man…he is not disabled but he sure acts like it when he’s ready. Bravo!!! Don’t ever let disability be an excuse for not living life to the fullest! God’s blessings, Rowan!
