Over $60,000 siphoned from City Hall

An employee of the Belize City Council has allegedly misappropriated and siphoned funds in a scheme that involved employee overtime. The pay mistress, Shirlene Sabal, has been suspended from work and it is expected that criminal charges will be brought against her. According to Mayor Darrell Bradley, the report from the auditors has been complete and the figures range in the vicinity of seventy thousand dollars. Bradley told News Five that the Council would do everything in its power to retrieve the funds that were taken between 2009 to 2011. The scheme involved loans that were paid with unauthorized overtime. The rouse was uncovered by the Human Resources Department of City Hall.
