Machete pulled out on Compassion Lane

Forty year old Sidney Humes, a laborer of Ladyville, appeared in the lower court today before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith following an incident on April first during which he was attacked by a machete wielding neighbor.  According to Humes, he was assisting Alicia Vargas, whom he said was intoxicated, when her husband, forty-seven year old Gregory Bennett assailed him.  Humes was reportedly confronted by the couple and during the melee which unfolded on Compassion Lane in Ladyville, he allegedly bit Vargas on her finger.  In court this morning, he pleaded guilty to a single charge of harm and was subsequently fined a hundred dollars which must be paid by May fourth.

Gregory Bennett

Bennett, on the other hand, appeared before Magistrate Hettie Mae Stuart where he was read a charge of grievous harm.  Humes claimed that Vargas and others were drinking on Compassion Lane when she asked him to take her home.  While walking through an alley near her house, he was assaulted by Bennett.  Humes was chopped multiple times to the body, including the head and hands.  He also suffered abrasions and scratches across his back.  Bennett pleaded not guilty to the charge of grievous harm and was offered bail in the sum of three thousand dollars.
