New Diplomatic Appointments for Foreign Offices

perla perdomo

Six diplomatic appointments were announced today following the regular sitting of Cabinet. Of the six, four are new and are as follows. The government says that former P.U.P. senior deputy leader and Lake I representative, Cordel Hyde, has been named Consul General in the New York area. That appointment is a rank lower than ambassador and entails dealing with the Diaspora and consular matters. But as soon as that release was sent out, we got a call from Bill Lindo, on behalf of Hyde. According to Lindo, Hyde says he has not been offered the appointment nor is he willing to accept it. Hyde is currently in the Big Apple where his son is being treated for cancer. The other notable appointment involves Mark Espat, another former senior deputy party leader of the P.U.P. who didn’t seek re-election in the Albert Division.

Nestor Mendez

Espat is being given the rank of Ambassador for Economic Affairs, as leader of the re-negotiating team for the Superbond. But the New York Mission appears to be the plum because the prime minister is appointing a permanent representative. Attorney Lois Young who was first named PR in 2008 but did not take up the assignment, is being renamed to that post and Janine Coye Felson remains at the mission as deputy permanent representative with the rank of Ambassador. Perla Perdomo, the niece of former minister and now cabinet secretary, Carlos Perdomo, is heading to the London High Commission to replace Kamela Palma.  In Guatemala and Washington, Fred Martinez and Nestor Mendez are re-appointed. There is no word on Brussels where Joy Grant, the former head of mission has moved up from ambassador to minister. There is also a report that Lorena, the sister of Santi Castillo will be named non-resident ambassador to Brazil.

So the rat espat is now a full fledge Udp I always mi know there was a reason they called them dirty brothers.

  2. Pontius Pilate says:

O yes, that’s the connection where the udps knew many confidential info of the PUP. Espat will be the next udp candidate for Albert. Just wait and see. The udp fulfills all his dreams, expectations and principles: according to St. Mark the udp is for the poor, the grassroots, the working people, social justice, anti-corruption. Why do you think ESpat gives his blessings to the udp.

  3. CEO says:

Both Rod and Pontius have very small minds! Take your minds out of the political pit so you can see there is more to this country and the world other than politics.

Politics should come last! her is why we can chage which political party we want to support but we can never change the fact that we are Belizeans. Even if we acquire other citizenship our place of birth will still be listed as Belize. These men are Belizeans first and are called to serve their country and they accepted!

I want to see the PUP makes appointments like these across lines the next time they are in the drivres’ seat.

  4. PGgyal says:

Oh, Chill out PONTIUS, Mark is for himself, he will do what is best for himself. It just so happens people think its for them.

  5. The Lion says:

CEO, FYI, the PUP hired Alfredo Martinez to be the Ambassador to Gautemala, a post that he still holds.
