‘Mea Culpa’ on Cordel Hyde Appointment
As we reported in Tuesday’s newscast, former senior deputy leader and government minister of the People’s United Party, Cordel Hyde says he was not officially offered nor will he accept the designation of Consul General to New York as the government announced following the meeting of cabinet. Hyde is currently in New York where his son is hospitalized battling with cancer. Since the March seventh elections, it was speculated that Hyde was in line for a diplomatic appointment. This morning on Open Your Eyes, the foreign minister Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington read a release in respect of Hyde. In fact, it was not a clarification for the diplomatic faux pas, it amounted to an apology. Here’s what Elrington had to say.
Wilfred “Sedi” Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs
“As Belize’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, it is a part of my responsibility to identify suitably qualified persons immediately below the rank of C.E.O.’s and Ambassadors for recruitment into the ministry. Persons identify for recruitment are those invariably those who I have good reason to believe are interested in the posting. Over the last four years, the practice has been for all ministers to submit to Cabinet the names for all potential recruits for senior posting in the government service for its approval. In conformity with that practice, I duly submitted the name of Cordel Hyde to the Cabinet some time ago for the senior post of Counsel General in New York. However, I had not, prior to doing so, communicated personally to Mr. Hyde my intention of submitting his name to the Cabinet for the post. Neither did I inform him prior to the issuance of Tuesday’s Cabinet press release that Cabinet had agreed earlier that day to his appointment as Counsel General in New York. Cabinet only agreed yesterday afternoon maybe about twelve-one. In the circumstances, I apologize to the prime minister, my Cabinet colleagues and especially to Mr. Hyde and his family for any and all embarrassment and inconvenience caused to them by my actions.”
bogus
I guess the ZINC FENCE STRATEGY worked…for Mark and Cordel, THEY BOTH ENDED UP BETTER THAN THEY WERE BEFORE.
Wow they are so qualified. Hooray for the advocators of jutice & peace in Belize. 21st Century Judas thats what they are…
CORDEL IS THE BEST MAN FOR THE POST!!! THIS IS NOT A MATTER OF WHO DAH RED OR BLUE, CORDEL IS A MAN FOR THE PEOPLE, AND I HUMBLY ASK HIM TO TAKE THE POST AND MAKE BELIZE PROUD .
GO DEH CORDEL, GO GO GO
If the UDP’s think Cordel Hyde is the best man for the post…. Then they should have told him to run and win…. Then if he won, the appoint him to the post as a PUP…
Sedi. unilke other politicians, Cordel cannot be bought, hushed, or misled. Go find yourself another sucker for that post. Cordel doesn’t want your “peace offering”
What they did was gross disrespect to Cordel! They unilaterally took on themselves and appoint Mr. Hyde without consulting, informing nor finding out if he would take up the posting. They are largely responsible as well for the harsh criticisms, derogatory comments and name calling Cordel and family has had to endure. I find them to be deliberate in feeding to the public and nurture into the public’s mind all the PUP’s propaganda on Mr. Hyde. Come on! They ought to have known the public backlash and consequences of treating as inconsequential such a proposition….. I say apology should NOT be accepted!
Apology is not needed in this case. Sedi is just being used as a puppet. What happened is that Cordel did not say “yes” and neither said “no” so the udps had expected that Cordel on hearing his coronation would immediately conform to the plan, but the zinc fence personnel are too sleek and have too much self-pride. They have weighted the consequences of the acceptance. That would confirm everything about the real identity of the zinc fence.
