Man charged after villager loses eye in bar fight
A bar fight in Independence village has left one man without an eye and another behind bars. Around eighty-thirty on Friday night, forty-two year old Jose Gallardo and thirty year old Juan Velliz, were drinking at a village bar when Gallardo got into an altercation with another man known only as Bol. Velliz was standing on the sidelines, but when he saw Gallardo pull out a knife, he stepped in and tried to wrestle the object away. But as the two struggled, the weapon cut Gallardo severely and caused him to lose his left eye. The badly bleeding man has been transferred to the Southern Regional Hospital where he remains tonight in a stable condition. Velliz was wounded on the arm and has since been charged with maim.
