City Council feeds down and out dads
Whether you call them fathers, daddies or, papas on Sunday sons and daughters will pay tribute with cards, gifts, and good behaviour. But for some men, this Sunday will pass like any other day because their homes are the streets of Belize City. With that reality in mind, this afternoon the Belize City Council handed out free meals to two hundred such fathers at Battlefield Park.
Zenaida Moya, Mayor, Belize City Council
“We know that a lot of the fathers that are homeless they will not the opportunity to spend with their families and they may not get the opportunity to have a good meal also on that day and, you know, we felt that they are important just like all fathers. Some of them, for whatever reason, they are out on the streets, homeless for whatever reason or a few of them are mentally ill and so forth and we know that they also need love.”
“Whether their families are around, we as a society owe a responsibility to share what we have with them.”
According to the Mayor, the lunch was funded by the staff and city councillors.
