Corozal resident shot by ex-lover’s boyfriend

Story PictureAnd in the north, a shooting in an apparent case of jealousy shortly after midday on Wednesday has left a Hall’s Layout mason in critical condition at the Northern Regional Hospital. Thirty year old Edgar Chan is in a coma after he was shot to the right chest, abdomen and calf allegedly by Jesus Echeverria. According to thirty-three year old Vilma Chi, she was with her boyfriend, Echeverria, in San Andres Village, when they were approached by Chan, who is her ex-common-law husband. An altercation ensued between the two men and shortly after Echeverria took out a three-eighty pistol and fired several shots at Chan. Chan was transported to the hospital and admitted under critical condition. News Five spoke with Deputy Officer in Charge of the Corozal Precinct, Inspector James Moreira, who says that the motive for the shooting was jealousy.

Insp. James Morriera, Deputy O.C., Corozal Police
“Our investigations reveal that this young lady by the name of Vilma Chi was in the company of one Jesus Echeverria. She claims to say that the young man is her new boyfriend as she had separated with this fellow that got shot, Edgar Chan. And Edgar Chan made an approach to Jesus and during that time an altercation occurred where Echeverria took out a three-eighty pistol and discharged the three shots, which hit Edgar Chan. The weapon was not recovered.”
