Greg Bennett regularly deported from U.S.A.

A Belizean was deported from the US for the third time on Thursday. Thirty-eight year old Gregory Hollis Bennett was first deported in 2009, but found his way back to the States. He was again expelled from the US in May, 2010 and was signing in with the Police Station every week for eight months before he disappeared in January 2011. Before long, he found himself in the US prison on drug related charges and was deported on Thursday at the end of his sentence. Bennett was charged today for failure to report to police as a deportee for sixty-seven weeks. He pleaded guilty and Magistrate Hettie Mae Stewart sentenced him to seven months in prison. On the last occasion, Bennett pleaded guilty to failure to report as a deportee and was fined one thousand dollars, but since this is his second conviction a custodial sentence had to be imposed.

  1. Ricky Malthus says:

This sentence is absurd. What happened in USA stays in USA. Why does Belize have to spend its resources to incarcerate anyone for being deported from USA? The entire program of administrative reporting to Police after being deported from USA, is designed to keep the undesirables on the farm with their own farm bosses. Wake up Belize, don’t be treated like stupid.

  2. Storm says:

A son of the Jewel who makes us all proud.

  3. R.Alex Smith says:

like Ricky Malthus said this is absurd, since when does a country thats govern under Democratic rule (not communist) detain its people or even jail them (worse) when they return home as a deportee from another country, would the “law enforcement agency” show us THE LAW that governs this authority,I’m sure that they can come up with A MEMO signed by some imbecile who does’nt have the “peoples” interest at heart but the few dollars that they’re being paid to “VIOLATE” our constitutional rights, since when can a “MEMO” become law without going through the proper channels of the government Belize is the only country in latin america that humiliate its people in this manner for the love of money, that said, clean up your act Belize and set your people free!!!

  4. Tom B says:

What makes this whole thing doubly absurd is that he already served a sentence
in the USA for whatever crimes he committed there.

You must understand that anyone who is deported from the US to any country if they are on probation or parole they still need to report. He should have been locked up from the first time his feet touched Belize. Drug dealer and gangs deported should be place in a prison seperate from the regular population to serve the remainder of their time on probation or parole. They should not be allowed to be free on the streets to corrupt our children who are our futures.

  6. RadicalBelizean says:

Eagle Eyes I agree with you to a certain extend. If someone has shown that they have been rehabilitated then I can’t see why their sentence should be extended in Belize. I think that would be unfair.

In the case of this young man, I think a custodial sentence is justified as he clearly show no regards for the authorities and laws in Belize.

Surely if one of the condition of his lease was to merely sign in weekly that would hardly inconvenience him. Some people spend their whole life being rebellious and sticking up their fingers to authorities.

  7. Lady says:

Eagle Eyes the only one with any sense! After reading comments on the other articles where people have been killed/shot, comments are get rid of these killers lock them up or hang them. Then here u all complaining bout this deportee being locked up. Think people this will be another criminal on the streets. He was a criminal in the Staes he will be the same here. He is NO GOOD! Why allow him to walk the streets? This is one of the reasons Belize is in the condition it is….

  8. Mary Drysdale says:

Yes, I agree, If the crime is committed in the USA, they should get the punishment their.
One of the reasons Belize crime rate and Gang enhancement is takeing Belize over, is due to Deportees. Therefore I agree with Eagle eye.

  9. BZNinCALI says:

Eagle Eyes & RadicalBelizean, thanks. Most Belizeans living in the states manage to feed their families without breaking the law. It is important that US Law Enforcement communicate with ours so that we know what deportees were originally charged with & what they were convicted of because it gives us insight into their character. Criminals accustomed to the lawlessness & poor record & evidence keeping & conviction rates in our country often underestimate US law enforcement Officers & find themselves locked up because of their own stupidity. Before we complain about the US paying us to keep them on the farm or the animals in their cages, just keep in mind that murderers were “self deporting” & walking free when we had no agreement.

welll first instance…people do not know him…Belize have worst and foremost thing to put on the media. you do not point fingers at people, everybody have there day, karma is a !@#$%. The alleged incident he commited is long time ago, he already got deported for it reporting to the police station thats his thing, and he know, now he got pulled over my lapd and did not have his id, many belizean are in the us doing the same thing. He turn himself around and change his life around for his kids. All his kids live in the uniteds states. one day going to belize. he still have someone who loves him and knows him. Everyone is responsible for they own action. He so honest so he plea guilty thinking he get a fined. knowing he get 7 months. Most his family lived in the us too father and sisters and brothers. What happen in the us stay in the united states..thats why belize it is right now, you follow what the us told you to do. Belize will conitnue be in poverty and more crime that is cause by the police and the politicians are worst, first of all the media up roar most people in belize.
