Deportee gunned down on Faber’s Road

Police investigations continue into Saturday’s double homicide. And as the weekend was coming to a close on Sunday night, it appeared that Belize City would have been spared a regular weekend murder. However, another number was added to the murder statistic. A man, identified as Brian Welch, was walking on Faber’s Road when a gunman appeared and fired multiple shots. It is reported that at least one of those shots caught him in the face. New Five’s Andrea Polanco reports:

Andrea Polanco, Reporting

Shortly after six-thirty on Sunday evening, forty nine year old Brian Welch, reportedly a deportee from the U.S.A was walking on Faber’s Road when he was gunned down.  A short while later, police were processing the scene as residents gathered in the area. Shortly after, Welch’s body was carted off to the morgue in the back of a police truck. Residents say they heard at least six shots fired at Welch who was apparently walking on the street at the time. He was later discovered dead in a nearby yard, near a pile of rubble. Welch isn’t known to have many friends or family nearby. Apparently, Welch lived in Hattieville where Arthur Underwood showed him kindness and allowed him to live on a property he owned.

Arthur Underwood, Landlord

“This guy, I would ah say bout ah month ago. Today wah complete wah month.”

Andrea Polanco

“So he mi di rent alone or with any family members?”

Arthur Underwood

“He alone was here.”

According to Underwood, he knew Brian Welch by another name. He says the news of his death was unexpected:

Arthur Underwood

“He neva give mi ih first name but I know ah Requena.”

Andrea Polanco

“Okay. So when dah the last time you mi si ah alive?”

Arthur Underwood

“Look yah, the last time I si dah man dah mi two weeks ago because he nuh come hail mi yah. “And now that you hear the news, of course dah wah surprise to you?”

Live like a gangster, die like a gangster. What did he expect?

But his murderers should still hang.

May God have mercy on his soul.

For some strange reason which I still cannot understand, I believe that the cause of most of these recent murders by guns are being carried out by a policeman, or a vigilante who is fed up ….

I met this guy just after he was deported from the US and we were coworkers…I know for sure he was a ruthless criminal that lived by the gun and so he died.
