School security guard attacked on duty
Separate attacks at two city schools have sent a security guard to hospital and left a teacher walking to work. In the first incident, before seven this morning, staff and students of All Saints Primary showed up to school only to find blood all over one of the verandas and their security guard missing. Subsequent investigations by the police have revealed that around six today, Gregorio Leon was on duty when someone entered the campus and attacked him. Leon sustained injuries to his head which caused substantial blood loss, but somehow he managed to ride his bicycle home. That’s where police found him and immediately transported the guard to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Investigators have not yet been able to take a statement from the victim as he appears to be suffering from a concussion and is unable to speak. The motive behind the attack has yet to be ascertained as Leon was not armed. He is an employee of J & B’s Security Service, based in Belize City. All Saints Primary School was forced to hire a night security guard following a burglary at the institution in February.
The other incident took place at St. Joseph’s School, just blocks away from All Saints. According to standard six teacher Rose McGregor, shortly before one on Thursday afternoon she parked her green 1991 Ford Escort in front of the school on St. Joseph’s Street. But when she returned to the same spot at five-thirty that evening, her car was gone. The theft was the second time this week that school officials have had to call the police as on Monday morning, there was no electricity at St. Joseph’s. According to Principal Glorycela Torres, sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, someone entered the compound, removed the meter, and cut three main lines in an unsuccessful attempt to remove the copper wiring inside. Torres told News Five today that in other to prevent further damage, the school has had to encase their meter in a burglar bar box. The primary school principal says this has been the second such attack to the school’s wiring in less than three months.
