Women charged in unrelated machete incidents

Two women have been charged with assault for unrelated attacks involving machetes. The first incident occurred in Seine Bight Village on Sunday between sixteen year old Alejandra Diego and thirty-five year old Valerie Bernard. According to the teen, around five that evening she was talking with some friends when a machete-wielding Bernard suddenly came after her and cut her to the left side of the face. Cops picked up Bernard and charged her with Aggravated Assault and Wounding.

The other wounded woman was thirty-one year old Cheli Ramirez of Guinea Grass Village. Ramirez told police that around three on Tuesday she was at her vegetable shop when she heard fellow villager Maria Humes calling her name. Ramirez says she beckoned the woman into the store, but upon entering Humes removed the cover from a bucket she was holding and threw its contents on her. The vessel was filled with hot water, which caused burns to Ramirez’s neck. But Humes was not finished, as according to the shopkeeper she then took out a machete from inside her skirt and lashed Ramirez several times on her left upper thigh, causing bruises. Ramirez was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital, while twenty-nine year old Humes was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Harm. According to police, both incidents were the result of disputes involving the women’s children.
