Canadian national prefers jail time instead of paying fine
A Canadian who was acting disorderly at the Battlefield Park earlier this year is behind bars tonight after he was found guilty of the offense. Forty-seven year old David Allen McFarlen was convicted for Insulting a Police Officer and was fined a hundred dollars. But he opted to spend the alternative one month jail sentence. When Magistrate Tracy Sosa asked McFarlen what he had to say on his behalf before sentence was passed, McFarlen’s exact words were, “You better send me to jail because I don’t intend to pay a fine”. The incident with which he is charged occurred on the afternoon of February tenth when Sergeant Kenneth Magdaleno and Pablo Pikney were called to cool McFarlen down. When Magdaleno approached McFarlen and asked for his name and travel documents, McFarlen reportedly cursed the officer twice. In his defense, McFarlen denied that he ever insulted the officers. McFarlen arrived in Belize in early February.
