Young musicians learn the art of studio recording

Story PictureIt’s Music Week in Belize and to celebrate, workshops have been held countrywide for aspiring musicians to learn what it takes to do an actual recording with professional engineers. The activities have been organised by the Music Industry Association of Belize. News Five caught up with MIAB’s consultant/producer Gregory Vernon at the House of Culture where a group of eight musicians were advancing their skills on the guitar.

“We are looking at students from A.C.C.; we are looking at students from Wesley College. Of course we have our great Mark Philips and Chris Bradshaw who are here with us.”

“We have been having workshops throughout the country in music studios, recording studios and which have been pretty much successful with young artists, young musicians, aspiring musicians, going to these studios to be a part of music week.”

“Because most of the studios say oh I know this little guy that want to come into the studios but he does not have the finance and so we were moved to say, ok, let’s do something in the districts for the younger artists and for aspiring artists that they will be able to get into the studios.”

“Once they come out of the studios they have some knowledge of how to prepare once they want to do a full, complete album. All the musicians will be working on one song that they have chosen. They will be getting a master.”

Music Week comes to an end Saturday night at the Bliss, when Andy Palacio and the Garifuna Collective take the stage as part of the Watina World Tour. Tickets are twenty-five dollars reserve and fifteen general. The show begins at eight.
