Cops will be prepared for protests, says Compol

Story PictureMeanwhile Police Commissioner Gerald Westby says his officers will be doing all they can to ensure that peace is maintained on Friday in Belmopan. Westby says the two major political parties and at least one of the independent parties have already requested permits to assemble in protest.

“Certainly the security forces are preparing to maintain order of Friday and we are confident that order will be maintained and that is what I have to say in respect of that. But we are preparing to and ensure that order will be maintained out there on Friday.”

“Definitely we will be having designated places for the protestor and the commanders on the ground will assign these designated place and the bonds are quite specific as to the designated areas.”

“We have done our preparations. We have been out there and they will have designated areas and they will be assigned by the police officers out there on Friday.”

Although Westby would not go into the specifics of their preparations it is expected that the riot squad will be among the security forces in place.
