Mayflower visitor shot and killed
Just before eight o’clock on Sunday night, shots rang out in elsewhere in the Old Capital. A Dangriga man was shot and killed in one of the City’s most dangerous hoods. A lone gunman opened fired killing Eldon Lewis instantly as he sat on a verandah. Lewis recently moved to the City and was employed at Belize Waste Control. The motive for his murder is under investigation. News Five’s Jose Sanchez reports.

The body being carted away in the back of this police pick-up truck is Eldon Lewis, who until recently was working at Belize Waste Control. He has no known affiliation to any group, except the area where his body was found. 
Mayflower Street is one area of the city where you do not enter without receiving permission from its residents. It is a dead end street, and at the far end, Eldon Lewis was killed while sitting under this house.

“Police visited a scene through an alley way a little off Mayflower Street sometime after seven last night where they found the lifeless body of Eldon Lewis, a thirty-six year old male, with his last known address as Dangriga Town. Investigators have gathered that Lewis was socializing with other persons in that area. He was seated on a verandah for the upper flat of a wooden house when a lone gunman walked up to him and delivered several shots to him. He was hit several times all over the body. He was transported to K.H.M.H. where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

“Is he from the area? Do people know him?”

“What investigators have gathered is that he may have been visiting someone in that area. He is originally from Dangriga. So whether or not he was known to that area, the investigators still have to canvas that area a little more. But what we have gathered is that obviously he was with someone from that area.”
A crowd watched as the cops walked out of Mayflower Street with his body. So far, no one has identified the person who walked away after taking his life.

“It’s an area where people don’t normally go into so somebody must have seen something. Are you getting any cooperation from people living in the area?”

“Well Jose, we still are praying that someone will find it in their heart to come forward and give the police the necessary investigation so that we can make an arrest or at least identify the perpetrator of this crime first. We know how tightlipped that area is and we are just asking the assistance of the general public.”

I have said a few times here that we need BDF to be on the scene in some places in the city — Mayflower is a perfect example of such a place, which is practically a law unto itself. I’d like to see a permanent encampment of BDF right on their doorsteps.

And she looks like u every day. I know my mom is taking it hard too.
