Police following leads to solve recent murders

Valentino Coc

The two known suspects in the murder of a Belmopan teen are still on the run tonight. Eighteen year old Valentino Coc, a resident of Maya Mopan, was brutally hacked to death with a machete on Saturday night in the Salvapan area. He was reportedly playing football with friends when an altercation ensued. Valentino is believed to have been pursued from the football field to a yard on Surname Street where the machete attack took place. He was slashed on the head, face and arms and died on the spot. As we said, police are looking for two suspects.

Anthony Mayen

Two persons were also murdered in Belize City over the weekend. Early Sunday morning the Mayen brothers: Anthony, Darrell and Kirk exited Tropicana Lounge and got into a Mercedes Benz when several shots were fired at them. Anthony was killed, Darrell was shot on the shoulder and Kirk remained unharmed. Police continue their investigations and are asking eyewitnesses to come forward and assist with the investigation. On Sunday night, thirty-seven year old Dangriga resident, Eldon Lewis was shot while he sat under a house in a housing compound beyond the end of Mayflower Street. Police say the shooter walked through the street then into the area where Lewis was lounging and opened fire on him. The gunman escaped and police continue to look for clues regarding the identity of the assailant. So tonight, there are no arrests yet for the three weekend murders.
