Businessman charged for assaulting cousin, but wife is jailed

Twenty-seven year old Lauren Rosalez is also tonight behind bars following an incident during which she, along with her common-law husband, forty-nine year old businessman Ryan Swift, assaulted his cousin with a shovel. She is on remand, but he is on bail. On May twenty-fourth, fifty-five year old Errol White reported to police that he was socializing with Swift and his girlfriend at their residence on Nargusta Street when they got into a heated argument.  The couple allegedly attacked White with a shovel and an empty bottle then proceeded to beat him.  Rosalez, according to White, threw the bottle at him, injuring his forehead.  Today Swift and Rosalez appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer where they were each read a single charge of wounding. While bail was initially offered to the couple it was later revealed that Rosalez, who is from Honduras and speaks only Spanish, is in the country illegally.  When asked for a passport to confirm her status Rosalez was unable to produce one and was remanded until July fourteenth.  Meanwhile Swift, who was able to meet bail in the sum of two thousand dollars, lobbied on her behalf for a two-week extension to have Rosalez’s documents processed; however, his attempt was futile since she has been deemed a flight risk.
