Knockdown victim dies; driver charged

Four days after fifty-three year old Leonides Puc was knocked down near mile eighty-five on the Northern Highway, this morning the San Narciso resident succumbed to his injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Following the accident, eighteen year old Kairo Romero of Santa Rita Layout in Corozal Town was arrested and charged. Investigations revealed that around four that morning, Romero was driving his grey Toyota Camry from the northern border to Orange Walk when he told police that a person walked into the path of the vehicle. Romero reported that although he tried to stop the car, he could not avoid hitting the pedestrian. He has been charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct and Driving Without Due Care and Attention.
