Both UDP and PUP claim victory in village elections
In more political news, as they have been ever since the first village council election results, tonight the two major parties are claiming victory now that the polls have closed. In a press release from the People’s United Party Secretariat, they have the clear majority having won council races in one hundred and three villages. They concede seventy-four communities to the United Democratic Party and sixteen to independent slates. On the other hand, the U.D.P.s say they won in one hundred and fourteen villages, allocating sixty-seven to the P.U.P. and nine to the independents. U.D.P. National Campaign Manager Karim Berges admits that they did include the independents that are “U.D.P.-friendly” among their winning slates.
