George Betson gets charged for Aggravated Assault
Remember George Betson? He is the man who was displaced from his home and land when he refused to comply with a court order. Well today, the sixty-six year old part-time taxi-driver and supervisor in the sanitation department of the Belize City Council was spared from going to jail. He was charged for the aggravated assault of Eldon Reneau with a firearm. Betson appeared before Revenue Magistrate Edd Usher and while no bail was granted, his age and medical condition saved him from being locked up in prison. Instead Magistrate Usher made a special order and decided to place him in the care of the Community Rehabilitation Department. All his travel documents were surrendered and his case was adjourned until September twenty-second. On Sunday, Betson allegedly pulled his licensed thirty-eight caliber pistol at Eldon Reneau while at the Lodge Hall on Euphrates Avenue. According to Reneau, Betson pulled out a firearm and pointed it at him after alleging that he had hit a woman that accompanied him.
