UB subsidy cut to take effect in January 2013
Last week, during the budget debate, the Minister of education, Patrick Faber, said that government will be cutting the subsidies to the University of Belize for general semester fees. It sparked a firestorm among UB students, who feared that it would result in a fee increase. This afternoon, the university confirmed that the cutback won’t take effect until the January 2013 semester and will only affect incoming students since the Ministry of Education has agreed to continue funding all students currently enrolled at the university. In August, 2006 the government decided on the General Semester Fees, which would be paid for all students for a period of six months.
If all these ministers would take a pay cut maybe a lot more students could go to school take away all their vehicles give them bicycles it ride sell the vehicles and put more students in school. Of course this would not help much since their are no jobs in the country.
