San Ignacio resident in critical condition following stabbing incident

A San Ignacio resident is tonight in critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following an attempt on his life just before dawn on Sunday. According to twenty-nine year old Gilroy Nicholas Junior, he was on the verandah at his home in the Shawville Area of the Western Town when a male assailant stabbed him three times on the chest. Nicholas was stabbed twice on the right side of the chest and once on the left. He was transported later transported to the K.H.M.H. in Belize City, where he underwent surgery. Police say that while the investigation continues into this attempted murder, it appears that Nicholas Junior knew his assailant and has refused to reveal his identity.

“Police visited a scene around three-fifteen a.m. where Gilroy Nicholas, twenty-nine years of Shawville Area reported that he was sitting on his verandah when a male person attacked him; stabbed him. He got what appeared to be three stab wounds; two to the right side of the chest and one to the left side. Nicholas was then transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital and is now at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a serious condition.”

Police say that they have one person detained for questioning.
