One of two suspects is charged for armed robbery on Elston Kerr Street
A man was held up, pistol whipped and robbed in his yard on Monday night and tonight one of two suspects is behind bars. The victim is twenty-nine year old Elston Kerr Street resident, Godwin Samuel Straughan, who reported that at around eight-thirty, two men arrived at his house. One of the assailants, who was riding a bicycle, stopped and pulled out a handgun. The gunman reportedly rushed into the yard, grabbed Straughan and placed the gun at this stomach, demanding that he hand over his personal belongings. Straughan says he was hit in the face with firearm before the men stole his phone as well as six hundred and twenty-five dollars from his pockets. Both men escaped, but within an hour Dean Dawson Junior was arrested and Straughan pointed him out in an identification parade. Dawson appeared before Magistrate Hurl Hamilton this morning and was charged with Robbery and Wounding upon Straughan. He was unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to both charges. Bail was denied and Dawson has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison until September fourth.
