Taiwan Embassy burglarized
Taiwan announced today that its Vice President Wu Den-yih, who has been designated with the rank of special envoy, will be arriving in Belize on August eighteenth, following the inauguration of the new president of the Dominican Republic. The V.P. and a delegation will be holding bilateral talks with the government and will depart on the twenty-first. But the following piece of information has not been announced. The Embassy of Taiwan on North Park Street was robbed over the weekend and a substantial amount of cash was taken from a safe. There are few available details on the incident but is appears that it took place sometime between Saturday night and Sunday. Police are investigating all leads and a number of persons are being questioned. At this stage they are not ruling out that it may be an inside job; the building is supported by around the clock security. Last year two other diplomatic missions were burglarized. The embassies of El Salvador and Venezuela in Belmopan were robbed of computers and other office equipment. Police made arrests in two cases accusing the same suspect in both.
