Private, public sectors jointly improve Hopkins water system
Meanwhile in Hopkins, that village’s water system will be upgraded through an increasingly popular model involving a partnership between the local water board and a private developer. The one hundred and eighty-nine thousand dollar project will refurbish an existing well, construct two new wells, install pumps, and lay over two miles of PVC pipe. The system will provide water to the new Hopkins Bay tourism development as well as the rest of the village. Hopkins Bay will put up all the front money and will be reimbursed for one hundred and nine thousand dollars by the water board through a monthly reduction of fifty percent in its water bill. The agreement was signed Wednesday by representatives of Hopkins Bay, the village water board, and the Ministry of National Development.
