Newborn baby dumped in North Creek canal
Meanwhile Belize City police are also searching for the parents of a baby discovered dead in a canal off Central American Boulevard. According to sixty-three year old sanitation worker Noel Ebanks, around nine-thirty on Saturday morning he was cleaning the side of the North Creek Canal when he spotted the body of a newborn baby floating in the water. This morning Ebanks told News Five he could not believe what he was seeing.

“I was picking up grass like how you see dah grass deh and then when I look inna the water I see the thing. I mi think dah wah dog or wah puss right and after I look at it good, I said no, this dah wah baby.”

“Was it a little boy or a little girl?”

“A little boy and I picked it up with them two brick weh ah have deh.”

“Was it floating face down?”
Noel Ebanks
“Yes, face down. The navel string had wah piece on it, a long navel string soh, about a foot.”

“You mean the umbilical cord was still attached to the baby?”
Noel Ebanks
“Yes, still attached to him, a foot long.”
Belize City police say they have no idea who could have dumped the baby in the canal. Authorities are awaiting post mortem results to find out if the baby was alive when it was thrown into the water.
