Stann Creek farmer dies of snakebite
The majority of the approximately sixty different types of snakes in Belize are harmless to humans … but a few–nine to be exact–can send you to an early grave. And that’s exactly what happened to fifty-three year old Domingo Cucul of San Roman Village in the Stann Creek district. On Sunday morning Cucul was at his farm when he was bitten by a snake of unknown species. According to police, he went to see a local “snake doctor” whose remedies did not seem to work. By the time a decision was made to seek more reliable medical care, it was too late. Cucul was dead on arrival at the Independence Clinic.
