Two more die, on injured in other road mishaps
Two others died in weekend traffic mishaps and a third lies hospitalised in critical condition. Just after midnight Saturday morning in Orange Walk, twenty-six year old Otilla Quintanilla lost her life when she ran her Ford Escort into the back of a cane truck, between miles sixty and sixty-one on Northern Highway. Police are trying to determine whether the truck, travelling north from the Tower Hill Sugar Factory after discharging its load, had all its lights working properly. The driver was twenty-six year old Virgilio Chuc Junior.
In San Ignacio, fifty-seven year old Daniel Garcia died after he was hit by a bus Saturday night on Burns Avenue. According to police reports, around eight p.m. Garcia was chasing the National Transport Bus in order to board when the vehicle turned a corner and ran him over. The driver was forty-two year old Antonio Chan, who has been served with a notice of intended prosecution.
At around the same time on Saturday in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, thirty-four year old Elsworth Sutherland was driving an all-terrain vehicle on Mar de Tumbo Drive when he lost control and ran into a fence. Sutherland received severe injuries to his head and was flown to the K.H.M.H. in Belize City where he remains in critical condition.
