Suspect arrested following shootout with cops
A Belize City man has been arrested following a bizarre incident in which he allegedly engaged in a shootout with law enforcement authorities. According to police, around eleven-thirty Thursday night eighteen year old Lincoln Sinclair, a resident of Logwood Street, was driving a gold coloured Cadillac Escalade on Princess Margaret Drive. But when he saw a police car, he sped off at high speed. The cops pursued and eventually the Escalade ran off the road into a ditch. According to the officers, when they approached Sinclair’s vehicle he put his arm out the window and squeezed off several rounds in their direction. He then managed to drive the S.U.V. out of the drain toward the police, who got off a few shots of their own, none of which stopped the Cadillac or its driver. Sinclair, who was recognised by the officers, was later picked up at his residence. The vehicle, said to belong to James Young, was found abandoned on Vasquez Avenue. Sinclair, who had been previously charged in a similar incident in which he allegedly fired on Superintendent Edward Broaster, has been charged with five counts of aggravated assault.
