Youth claims police brutality

Story PictureAnother youth has come forward to accuse a police officer of brutality. Mark Godoy Junior is claiming that he was taken to a crime scene and beaten before being charged for a burglary he did not commit. He alleges that he is being targeted because he has been charged a number of times, but has never been convicted. Godoy came to News Five’s studios to share his experience and brought a friend, Herschel Usher, to back him up.

“Saturday night I was coming from a party and one of my friend Roberto. And when I left di party about one-forty-five, police intercept me. Dehn ker me pan wah crime scene behind Complex building where I saw so much computer and thing pan di ground. Den afta dat dehn start beat up me and tell me how dehn wah charge me for dis, something weh I noh even know bout, bust up gunshot ova my head and all kind ah thing. Di police assault me, dehn rob my money. Afta dat dehn detain me and ker me to di station where Tuesday I was charged wit a charge sheet, Burglary with some others weh I didn’t know and di police dehn meet me by myself going home.”

“Yes ma’am. I was at my friend Roberto, a fisherman, he had a party dat night and all ah we was at fi he house.”

“Yeah, we mi deh dah wah party and dehn mi got wah lee commotion wid wah vehicle weh run inna di canal and ting. Nothing neva really happen dah night deh but when we gone home from di party and ting, di man mi walk home and ting and di next day when di man come out ah station and ting ih tell we how dehn beat up ah and ting and charge ah fi some building.”

“Have you gone to make a complaint against the officer?”

“No ma’am cause dis is one thing over and over. When I go to Internal Affairs, dehn set meeting fi mek me and my father could meet at Queen Street Police Staiton wid di police dem. When we set meeting, dehn seh twelve o’clock. We wait till twelve, dehn seh one o’clock. We wait till one, dehn seh di police dehn deh out pan patrol, dehn can’t come in. Dehn lone got we di shub round.”

News Five tried to reach the officer in charge at the Police Department’s Internal Affairs Unit, Inspector Glen Rivero, to verify if the incident is being investigated, but he was not available.
