Nigerian volunteers take up positions in health, nat. resources
On Saturday, twenty-nine Nigerian professionals were hosted at the Princess Hotel for an orientation session prior to taking up positions in Belize’s healthcare system and the Ministry of Natural Resources. The volunteers form part of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps Scheme that the African country and Belize signed back in 1991. On Saturday, that bilateral agreement was renewed for another two years. Signing on behalf of Belize was Minister of Health Jose Coye, while Jamaica-based High Commissioner to Belize, Chief Olufolajimi Akintola signed for Nigeria. Under the agreement, Belize is responsible for providing the workers with housing and medical attention, while the Nigerian government pays them a stipend.
