Post Office driver charged in fatal Ladyville knockdown
Following the death of an elderly man in a traffic accident on the Northern Highway, police have arrested and charged the driver involved. According to court reports, this morning forty-five year old Rudolph Smith, a driver for the Postal Service, was arraigned on the charges of causing death by careless conduct, manslaughter by negligence and driving without due care and attention. No plea was taken, but Magistrate Sharon Frazer offered the defendant bail of five thousand dollars which he met. The accused is scheduled to reappear in court on March twenty-third. Smith was detained after the government vehicle he was driving knocked down seventy year old Saturnino Sosa between miles nine and ten on Tuesday evening. The Lord’s Bank resident died at the scene from severe head and body injuries. While the victim’s cell phone has been recovered, family members of the deceased continue to petition the person or persons who took their father’s jewellery to please return the items.
