Two arrested in last week’s murders
Police investigations over the weekend have resulted in the arrest of two people for the separate killings committed last Friday. In connection with the death of twenty-seven year old Ladyville resident Koffi Beeks, twenty-two year old Glenford Ferguson has been charged for the crime of murder. A dazed looking Ferguson appeared before Magistrate Albert Hoare this morning where he voluntarily told the court, “I neva mean fu kill ah.” At that point, Magistrate Hoare cautioned the defendant about making further statements. Ferguson was later remanded to Hattieville Prison until his next court date on March twenty-seventh. According to eyewitnesses, around one on Friday morning, Beeks was stabbed in the neck with a switchblade. He later died while receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. As for a motive, tonight we understand that a rumour involving the victim and his killer may have sparked the violence. Prior to his arrest, Ferguson was employed as a storekeeper for the Belize Defence Force.
Meanwhile, Belize City police have arrested and charged the man they believe shot and killed Densley Arnold on Friday afternoon. The accused is twenty year old Denvo Banner, a resident of Cedar Street. Banner appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb this morning and he was remanded until March fourteenth. Arnold, who was employed as a technician at the Pathology Laboratory, was shot three times by one of two men who ambushed him near the corner of Vernon Street and Magazine Road.
